On June 13, 2024 in Ngozi – The Sixth General Conference of Burundi Free Methodist Church was officially launched at the Ruhuka Hotel in the Mwumba commune. The topic of the conference is the Mission of the Church in the Community,” based on the biblical passage from Matthew 28:18-20, which calls for evangelism and service.
Gathering 53 delegates representing 250,000 members across 45 districts, the event also hosted international delegations from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Kenya, as well as the regional coordinator of the ICCM. Among the distinguished guests, Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira, President of the IMELEA Board of Directors, graced the opening ceremony with his presence.
Bishop Déogratias Nshimiyimana, head of Burundi Free Methodist Church, highlighted the aim of the same conference which is to evaluate past achievements and chart the future course of the Church.
This sixth edition of the General Conference will take place over four days. During this period, deep reflections and strategic discussions will guide the Church in its mission to serve the community. The teachings of the conference will focus on three essential points:
- Evangelization: Encourage each member of the community to become a believer and fulfill their tasks according to biblical teachings. Biblical reference: Matthew 28:18-20
- Personal transformation: Show each member of the Church the path to a transformed life in all aspects of their existence. Biblical reference: Romans 12:1-2
- Light in the community: Train members of the community to be lights, serving as models and inspiration for others. Biblical reference: Matthew 5:13-16
