Residents of Cibitoke Commune and its surrounding areas have a major reason to celebrate. On Monday, June 9, 2026, the EL-RAPHA Health Center officially launched its operations, marking a significant milestone for local healthcare accessibility.

The center opened its doors immediately after receiving official authorization from the Ministry of Public Health, welcoming its very first patients for consultations and treatment on opening day.

Bringing Quality Care Closer to Home

Strategically located on Karurama Hill, just below Cibitoke High School at the commune’s headquarter, the new facility was intentionally designed with the community in mind. For years, traveling long distances to access medical care has been a major hurdle for locals. EL-RAPHA changes that dynamic entirely, ensuring that residents of Cibitoke Centre and neighboring areas now have top-tier healthcare right in their backyard.

From day one, the facility has been fully operational and equipped with :

  • Qualified Personnel: A dedicated team nurses, laboratory technicians, and support staff committed to serving with both professional competence and deep compassion.
  • Modern Infrastructure: State-of-the-art equipment ready for general consultations, emergency response, and essential diagnostic examinations.
  • An In-House Pharmacy: A fully stocked pharmacy carrying essential medicines specifically selected to treat the most common illnesses prevalent in the region.

A Vision Rooted in Faith and Dignity

EL-RAPHA is about more than just medicine and machinery. Managed under the auspices of the Free Methodist Church in Burundi, the health center operates on a holistic vision of healing.

“Beyond the infrastructure, it is our vision that makes the difference,” church representatives noted. “We aim to heal the body, but also to bring comfort and dignity to every patient.” Guided by Christian values, the staff treats every individual who walks through the doors as a precious being created in the image of God.

The First Step Toward a Referral Hospital

The grand opening on June 9 is only the beginning of an ambitious roadmap. The Free Methodist Church is actively continuing construction on the Karurama site to expand the facility’s footprint.

The ultimate goal of the church is clear: to gradually scale up the health center into a large-capacity referral hospital. Future expansion phases will introduce advanced specialized medical services, significantly increase bed capacity, and position EL-RAPHA as the healthcare institution for the entire Cibitoke commune and neighboring regions.

A Mission of Service

This project is the culmination of years of prayer, community mobilization, and strategic partnerships. It directly fulfills the Church’s broader social mission: to proclaim the Gospel while concretely addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of communities.

A Community Built on Gratitude

As operations get underway, project leaders expressed their profound gratitude to the key stakeholders who made the center a reality:

  1. The Ministry of Public Health for their trust, guidance, and official sanctioning.
  2. Local and Administrative Authorities of Cibitoke for their unwavering logistical and institutional support.
  3. Partners, Donors, and Church Members whose financial contributions and prayers carried the project from a vision to a physical reality.

For the people of Cibitoke, the message from EL-RAPHA’s leadership is simple and reassuring: “Your care is now closer. We are here to serve you.”

As the clinic begins its journey of service, it does so anchored by the spiritual promise of Psalm 147:3: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

We notice that EL-RAPHA is the fith health center projects initiate by Burundi Free Methodist Church after,KIBUYE Hope Hospital,Van Norman Clinic, Burenza Health Care Center and MUYEBE health Care Center.
