Burundi Free Methodist Church has taken a significant step in community development and national progress through the construction of EL-RAPHA Health Center, a modern healthcare facility located in Karurama village, Cibitoke Commune, Bujumbura Province.

This ambitious project is the result of a partnership between the Free Methodist Church of Burundi and its affiliates from the Free Methodist Church in Michigan, USA. On Saturday, November 21, 2026, visiting delegates from the United States, accompanied by church leaders, toured the hospital site to witness the progress and assess the facility firsthand.

In his address, Bishop Déogratias Nshimiyimana, the legally recognized leader of the Burundi Free Methodist Church Burundi, highlighted the hospital’s potential impact on public health. He emphasized,

“Projects such as building hospitals, schools, and other community facilities are part of the Church’s mission to serve God through helping people.”

He also praised the dedication and collaboration of all partners who contributed to the project’s success.

The first phase of construction, the ambulatory care block, has been completed and inspected by health ministry officials, who awarded the facility a commendable 91% score. The hospital is now awaiting official approval from the Ministry of Public Health to commence full medical operations.

Looking ahead, the Church envisions EL-RAPHA developing into a fully equipped hospital, providing comprehensive healthcare services to residents of Cibitoke and surrounding areas. The facility is expected to significantly improve access to quality medical care and contribute to the overall well-being of the community.

During their visit, the guests also toured the newly established Hope Africa University Campus in Cibitoke, further strengthening ties between educational and healthcare initiatives.

EL-RAPHA Hospital represents not only a milestone in healthcare infrastructure but also a testament to the Church’s commitment to sustainable community development, international collaboration, and service to humanity. By combining spiritual guidance with practical initiatives, the Free Methodist Church of Burundi continues to foster hope, health, and progress for generations to come.
