DISCIPLE MAKING TRAINING: Nairobi from the 11th to the 19th of November 2016

From the 11th to the 19th of November 2016, the Director of the Evangelism, Discipleship and Church growth department in Burundi Free Methodist church participated in a disciple making training of the continental cohort of the African Strategic Discipleship Movement in Kenya. The cohort was hosted by Africa Gospel Church of Kenya which is one of the active evangelical churches in Kenya with a membership of 373,000 Christians in the whole country.

During the 9 days, we had times of strategic opportunities to unite and focus our attention on the great task of disciple-making. We experienced unity to share in our families, denominations, churches and countries. We also got times of trainings, fellowship, mentoring and community.

We arrived at Nairobi on Friday and, Saturday morning we learnt about practical evangelism which we put into practice in the afternoon of the same day in one of Nairobi slums. Many souls were gained to Christ during that evangelism outing. On Sunday we participated in AGC Sunday service where we experienced a good worship (Wewe watosha- You are enough Lord) whith an exciting preaching on Family Discipleship by Dr Ernie Frey.  In the afternoon of the same Sunday, we moved to Limuru, a very cool Baptist Mission centre (Brackenhurst Guest House and Conferences) where the rest of the training took place. We had 12 lessons:

  • The Gospel of the Kingdom(Lesson 7 and 8)
  • Spiritual Transformation(Lesson 7 and 8)
  • Disciple-making(Lesson 7 and 8)
  • Relationship, marriage and Family(Lesson 7 and 8)
  • Evangelism and Mission(Lesson 7 and 8)
  • Leading a Discipleship Movement(Lesson 7 and 8)

The session was concluded by a conference to mobilise church leaders in kenya for discipleship. Participants in that conference were not only AGC leaders but also some from Nairobi chapel and some other denominations. Friday afternoon we came back to Nairobi spent there the night before departing on suturday 19th.

After Ethiopia, Ghana, Egypt and Kenya, the ASDM baton is

passed on South Africa to organize February 2017 cohort

My gratitude is addressed to God Almighty who made it possible, to the Burundi Free Methodist Church Bishop and Executive Secretary for their support and encouragements, and to anyone who prayed and continues to pray for me.
