II. DEPARTMENT FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT




A. Ministries of the Church and Christian Education

 

1. Projects for Children’s Ministries

Focus: From 2016-2025, Children’s Ministries and Christian Education will focus on organizing Sunday School and VBS classes for children in every Burundi Free Methodist local church, teaching and guiding children to Christ, so that they can grow spiritually towards Christlikeness; train teachers for Sunday School and VBS, develop contextualized and relevant materials for teaching children, implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

2. Projects for Youth Ministries

Focus: From 2016-2025, Youth Ministries and Christian Education will focus on organizing youth bible study discussion groups; Sunday School and VBS classes for youth in every Burundi Free Methodist local church; teaching and guiding youth in setting goals for life; taking them through premarital education; guiding them to grow spiritually towards Christlikeness; train youth teachers; develop contextualized and relevant materials for teaching youth; implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

3. Projects for Singles’ Ministries

Focus: From 2016-2025, Singles’ Ministries and Christian Education will focus on organizing single’s bible study discussion groups; Sunday school classes for singles in every Burundi Free Methodist local church, teaching and guiding singles in setting goals for life; guiding them to grow spiritually towards Christlikeness; train singles’ teachers, develop contextualized and relevant materials for teaching singles, implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

4. Projects for Family Ministries

Focus: From 2016-2025, Family Ministries and Christian Education will focus on organizing a Christian Family Enrichment Program; family leadership roles, conflict prevention and management; raising obedient children in a rebellious world; and transforming family fellowship for every family of Burundi Free Methodist local churches; teaching and guiding youth in setting goals for life; train family care coordinators, develop contextualized and relevant materials for teaching youth, implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

5. Projects for Women’s Ministries

Focus: From 2016-2025, Women’s Ministries and Christian Education will focus on organizing women’s Bible study discussion groups; Sunday school classes for women in every Burundi Free Methodist local church; teaching and guiding women in setting goals for the family; taking them through education concerning their roles in the family; guiding them to grow spiritually towards Christlikeness; train women leaders; develop contextualized and relevant materials for teaching women; implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

6. Projects for Men’s Ministries

Focus: From 2016-2025, Men’s Ministries and Christian Education will focus on organizing men bible study discussion groups; Sunday school classes for men in every Burundi Free Methodist local church; teaching and guiding men in setting goals for the family; taking them through education concerning their roles in the family; guiding them to grow spiritually towards Christlikeness; train men leaders; develop contextualized and relevant materials for teaching men; implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

B. Ministries of the Church and Lay Leadership Development

 

1. Projects for Mweya Theological Institute

Focus: From 2016-2025, Ministries of the Church and Mweya Theological Institute of Evangelical will focus on organizing contextualized and relevant programs which practically responds to the needs of the church in Burundi. The curriculum will be revised to meet the Government requirements so that students who graduate from the school are qualified at the same level as the other students. In addition to developing students who are well equipped to assist the church to adequately respond to challenges facing the church today, we shall do our best to develop the school to the level of Bachelors in Theology. The church will develop the contextualized and relevant curriculum for ITEM with teaching materials to implement the program and assess and ensure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

2. Projects for Lay Leadership Training

From 2016 to 2025, Ministries of the Church and Leadership Training for Lay Leaders will focus of developing lay leaders who will be serving in different activities of the local church, so that every person serving the church is well equipped with knowledge, skills and attitudes which are used to fulfill the Mission and make the Vision of Burundi Free Methodist Church a reality. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant leadership development program with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

3. Projects for Executive Development Program

Focus: From 2016 to 2025, Ministries of the Church and Executive Development Program will focus on training executive leaders in areas of professional ethics; stewardship; critical thinking and evaluation; self-leadership, family leadership, institutional organization, leadership and management; community mobilization; project development; and grant writing. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant executive development program with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

4. Projects for Mentoring for Leadership

Focus: From 2016 to2025, Ministries of the Church and Mentoring for Leadership will focus on leadership training based on a succession plan. Each leader in Burundi Free Methodist Church, will be sensitized to mentor at least three leaders at his/her succession starting from the time he/she is starting activities entrusted with him/her. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant mentoring program with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

C. Ministries of the Church and Ministerial Education

 

1. Projects for Deacons’ Education

Focus: From 2016 to 2025, Ministries of the Church and Deacons’ Education Program will focus on developing curriculum based on the Free Methodist Church ministerial education guidelines. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant deacons’ education program capable of responding to the needs of the church with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

2. Projects for Elders’ Education

Focus: From 2016 to 2025, Ministries of the Church and Elders’ Education Program will focus on developing curriculum based on the Free Methodist Church ministerial education guidelines. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant elders’ education program capable of responding to the needs of the church with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure its effectiveness through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

D. General Education

 

1. Projects for Primary School Education

Focus: From 2016 to 2025, Ministries of the Church and Primary School Education will focus on improving good governance, good management and quality education in our schools through improving student-teacher relationship, improving classroom learning environment, and sensitize teachers for increased commitment to teach by holding education for success workshops and training Christian religious education teachers. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant primary school Christian religious education program with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure the effectiveness of both school curriculum and Christian religious education program through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

2. Projects for Secondary School Education

Focus: From 2016 to 2025, Ministries of the Church and Secondary School Education will focus on improving quality education in our schools through improving student-teacher relationship, improving classroom learning environment, and sensitize teachers for increased commitment to teach by holding education for success workshops and training Christian religious education teachers, reorganize and strengthen Christian unions in ours secondary school education. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant secondary school Christian Religious Education program with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure the effectiveness of both school curriculum and Christian Religious Education program through critical monitoring and evaluation.

 

3. Projects for University Education

Focus: From 2016 to 2025, Ministries of the Church and University Education will focus on improving quality education in our university through improving student-teacher relationship, improving classroom learning environment, promote critical thinking and evaluation, and sensitize teachers for increased commitment to teach by holding education for success workshops and reorganize and strengthen Christian unions in our university education. The church will develop a contextualized and relevant Spiritual Formation university education program which the chaplain will use to serve university students, with appropriate teaching materials, in order to implement the program and assess and insure the effectiveness of both university curriculum and Spiritual Formation program through critical monitoring and evaluation.
